Restricted API or not implemented yet?

I’m working on an application to use the API, and I’m finding the API appears to be quite restrictive in what it allows with certain values being read-only.

For example, regarding products setting the backorders, visible, permalink, image title, image alt text, fields are impossible or reading the sale_price_dates_from/to, enable_html_short/_description, product_url, button_text fields are impossible too. I can understand why most fields are read-only, but not these!

Are these not implemented fully, or is there some justification for not making these writeable that I’m missing?
