Hi atiscareno,
The Premium addon has several ways to restrict automatic user-registration. The simplest way to accomplish what you want would probably be to just select the “Closed” autoregistration option, which you can see in the “Premium” tab of the admin panel (visible to free users as well). This will allow existing blog users to login with Facebook, but not others. You can therefore allow your alumni to register by any means you wish – manually through the WP registration process, through some invitation or moderation plugin, etc. Once they’ve accessed their approved account with the credentials you’ve supplied, they can associate their accounts with Facebook, and subsequently use one-click Facebook login. In other words, this plugin would let them LOGIN with Facebook – but only once you’ve explicitly given them an account, by whichever means you choose.
There is also an option to tie in with the Secure Invites plugin, but as that plugin hasn’t been updated in some time, I’d suggest giving it a try on its own first, to ensure it still works as desired. The tie-in feature will allow users to be autoregistered with Facebook, as long as their Facebook e-mail matches the e-mail to which you send the invitation (i.e. so you don’t have to manually create them an account).
Thanks,
J~
Justin –
This was very helpful. By chance, do you know of any quick and efficient way to upload a .CSV file of new user names in one process? Our goal is to be able to have the alumnus from each year be able to access a particular area of the website without having to relegate a web administrator to review and approve each user’s attempt to register a new user ID. Is there such a plug-in for this process for which you are aware?
Many thanks!
