retrieve translated text

I installed Japanese version wordpress and created a child theme of Graphene. In my site dashboard settings -> general -> site language, I selected ‘Japanese’.
Graphene theme has a languages folder which includes files: ja.mo and ja.po. It is supposed the translation will take the effect. But my site does not show translated text. it is still English text. Why? Who can give the answer?
