Revise vs Clone

I’m just a little confused – if I want to make a revision to republish later, I think I need to choose make a draft and then leave the URL as is, but change the date and schedule it.
If I’m using an existing post as a guide for a new post (with a different URL) then I still choose make a draft but change the ULR and edit as needed? Will it keep the new URL not publish to the cloned post’s URL? Thank you
