I just royally screwed things up trying to change some code (which I had no business doing) and now I can’t log in. I have contacted my server and they changed something to give me a specific error message, but I have NO idea how to fix my problem. HELP?

    This is the error message

Parse error: syntax error, unexpected ‘.’ in /home/vg007web05/47/69/2016947/web/wp-content/themes/spun/functions.php on line 337

Can you reinstall the theme through FTP?

I don’t know how to do that. I need to stop messing with things I don’t know about and stick to drop and drag stuff I guess. I do know that the theme is on my FTP directory, but I don’t know how to upload it that way. Sorry, I’m probably your worst nightmare today.

Unfortunately, you will need to use FTP to regain access to your site. You really probably only need to replace the functions file. Do you have FTP access set up? If not, get that info from your hosts first. Then download a new copy of your theme to your local computer and then replace the functions file with the new copy.

I have a copy of the theme on my computer, but I don’t know how to replace the functions file. Did I mention that I can’t log in to my wordpress site?

Yes, and that’s why we said you need to use FTP – here’s some info about it – http://codex.ww.wp.xz.cn/FTP_Clients

You’ll need to get the access info from your hosting company.

You could also use another file manager system that your host uses – if there is one.

The functions file will be located in:

    wordpress
       wp-content
          themes
             other themes
             spun
                 functions.php

I know this seems a bit daunting, but it’s really doable. Just take it one step at a time :).

I have access to my ftp manager. Should I delete the functions.php from there and then upload the previous saved version from my computer to replace it?

    Yep, that should work.
