    Hi Yannik!

I noticed in RSS readers that the RSS feed of links don’t show a description unless the full=page content portion has been filled out. Would it be possible to have the RSS feed instead show the data from the description field in Link Library since that’s used for the regular link library catalog pages?

It would save having to enter the description twice (i.e. in description box and also in full-content box).

    Thanks,
    Ray

Hi Ray, I assume you’re talking about the global site RSS feed, and not the Link Library-specific RSS feed, correct? Because I just double-checked and the Link Library-specific RSS feed does use the link description and not the full-content field.

For the site-wide RSS feed, if you select the option to include Links in that feed, the RSS item content will be determined by what you put in the Search Results / RSS feed tab found under Global Options. The default value of that field is the content, but you can easily change it to use the description or other fields as desired.

Ah, I see now. It is indeed set correctly to the link description. I’m using MailPoet to automatically email updates. I assumed it pulls in data from the RSS feed but it’s apparently pulling it straight from WordPress and the link description isn’t included, just the full page content for some odd reason.

I’ll ping them and see if they can tweak it.

    Apologies for the trouble.

Best way for them to fix this would be to provide a filter hook to be able to change what the content of the update is.
