    Hi all, I’m getting an error on my RSS feed.

    XML Parsing Error: junk after document element
    Location: http://sherrards.epixdev1.co.uk/feed/
    Line Number 21, Column 1:<?xml version=”1.0″ encoding=”UTF-8″?>
    ^

    I’ve tried the following:

    Disabling all plugins
    Deleteing all plugins and mu-plugins
    Disabling my theme
    Deleting my theme
    re-uploading wp-admin, wp-install and all root files from a clean version of WordPress.

    Everythnig is up to date version-wise.

    The only thing untoward I can see in the feed file is some Javascript at the top related to Subscribe2 – even though I’ve disabled and deleted the plugin. Could this be causing the error, and if so how do I remove it?

    Cheers,

    Zoe

  • @zoe,

    If the error remained after you disabled Subscribe2 then the Javascript cannot be being loaded from the plugin via the WordPress hooks so it must be coming in from somewhere else or via another method.

    Without a link to your site it’s hard to make any suggestions.

    Hey, thanks for the quick reply, I’ve re-enabled everything now, I don’t get what else could be causing it as a stripped the install right back to have no plugins and no themes and deleted my mu-plugin files too.

    Here is the link to the dev site that I’ve been using to try and resolve this issue – happy to delete everything again if it helps – wondering if its something in the database…?

    Thanks!!

    @zoe,

    In Subscribe2->Settings under the Appearance tab uncheck the “Enable AJAX style subscription form?” box and see if that helps.

    Hey. that made no difference unfortunately 🙁

    @zoe,

    That code is inserted by Subscribe2 only if AJAX mode is enabled so it is coming from somewhere else.

    Disable all plugins on that dev site and revert to a core theme, clear out any cache you might be using in a plugin before deactivating and try again.

    Cheers – it was firefox caching – checked it in another browser and all ok with regards to subscribe2 now.

    Unforunately another plugin is inserting a comment at the start of the feed which is also breaking it! Have contacted them as well.

    Thanks for your speedy help!!

    @zoe,

    Wow, that’s so strange that FF was causing that on your side. Great news you’ve identified that issue though.
