S2 Subscribe2 Problem – All Subscribers Lost! Help!!!

Please help!
My site has been going well – fifty subscribers, and about 40 visitors a day.
But S2 seemed to have failed – didn’t send an email notification to my last post.
So I un-installed and re-installed.
v10 showing fatal errors, but much worse, my list of subscribers is gone.
Are they really gone for good, or is there any way to recover them?
I hadn’t realised S2 was managing the subscriptions, and can’t believe it let me uninstall itself without any warning.
But no, I didn’t do a site backup or output to csv as I hadn’t realised how dangerous an uninstall would be.
Aaargh.
Any help appreciated – post hoc advice about backup less so.
