    Hi,

First off – great plugin. Really useful for my site.
    One query though –
I have two sidebars with the same link to a page (page 1) on them. These sidebars are placed on page 2 and page 3. I’ve added these to the sidebars using the custom menu widget.
So when I am on page 2 and I click on this link to take me to page 1, the sidebar from page 2 shows up when I get there.
My problem is, when I am on page 3 and I click on this link to take me to page 1, the sidebar from page 2 shows up when I get there again.
Is there any way that the plugin can remember which page you came from and not change the sidebar?

    Thanks

  • Hey there meglos42,

    How are you doing today?

I’m not really sure I understand what you’re looking to do so let me try to explain what you can do with Custom Sidebars.

Plugin simply allow you to replace your theme sidebars on specific pages on your site, there are multiple ways of doing this. For pages specifically you can either apply rule so specific sidebar is displayed on all pages, to do that you can go to Appearance -> Widgets and then click on the sidebar location and apply the rules http://screencast.com/t/mpfomNegJKyh.

Or if you need to be more specific you can select specific sidebar to be displayed for specific page when creating/editing pages in admin http://screencast.com/t/jJONth71OLE.

Is there any way that the plugin can remember which page you came from and not change the sidebar?

Custom Sidebars can’t do that, it will always display sidebars you’ve selected for that page regardless of where you come from if that makes sense.

    Best regards,

    Hi Bojan,

    Thanks for the reply.
It’s a little hard to explain, sorry if my request is a little confusing.

I’ve got several sidebars, each attached to specific pages (as per your second screenshot and the link below).

I don’t have a sidebar specified for the page in question (a contact page), but as it’s a child page I guess it just inherits from its parent?
As I can get to this page from links on 2 others (which have different sidebars) I suppose I’ll just have to decide which one I want to use for the contact page and stick with that.

    Merry Christmas!

    Hey again meglos42,

If you want to hide that link or a sidebar for that specific page you can simply add an empty sidebar for this page or we could just use CSS to hide it?

I’d need link to your site for this one.

    Marry Christmas to you too!

    Cheers,
    Bojan

That’s OK – I’ll figure something out, cheers.

    Fair enough 🙂
