Same menu item in two submenus

I happen to have the same page listed in two different submenus, e.g.:
Item 1
Sub A
Sub B
Sub C
Item 2
Sub D
Sub A
Sub E
When user clicks on Sub A, both submenus open — partially. Actually what I get is:
Item 1
Sub A
Item 2
Sub D
Sub A
Sub E
Is there a way to prevent this behavior, and have it only open the submenu that is currently active?
