Save button disappears when changing status

Hello,
A writer reported that after changing the Status of a post, the Save button disappeared. I recreated the problem on a dummy account. The only way the Save button came back was if, as Editor, I “take over” the post and change the Status, at which point the Save button comes back to the writer.
Any way we can fix this so the Save button remains while the writer is editing their text?
