That can be done with the Developer version (commercial version) of the Calculated Fields Form, it is a similar plugin (the same form builder) but with more fields and features. It can be downloaded at the page:

The plugin you propose is quite interesting, but for the external database function (which is the only I need) requires too much coding.
I was looking for a gui solution, otherwise I think I will write my own web service.
I’m amazed that this function is so little asked for. It seems so natural to me 🙂
