Hi @janqed,
Have you tried all the solutions suggested in our documentation?
Can you see any errors/warnings in the PHP or web server error logs around the time of the scan?

Yes I’ve tried everything listed and I don’t see any errors in cPanel at all.
Hi @janqed,
If you go to the “Wordfence –> Tools –> Diagnostics” page and scroll down to the “Log Files (Error messages from WordPress core, plugins, and themes)” section, do you see any files listed there?
If so, could you please check their content? Messages displayed in the error log(s) could help identify the cause of the issue.
Do you confirm setting the “Maximum_execution_time_for_each_scan_stage“ to a low value (“10”, for example)?
Also, in case it is enabled can you try disabling the scan option “Scan images, binary, and other files as if they were executable” which is located on the Wordfence –> Options page?
This scan option is mainly intended for using on known infected sites. It requires a lot of resources and is not necessary to use for normal scans. The reason for this is that non-executables such as images can not execute themselves. If there is malware in an image, there will be malware in other files on your server as well and those will be detected even with this scan option off.
Lastly, could you please:
- Go to the Wordfence Tools page
- Click the Diagnostics tab
- In the Other Tests section (near the bottom of the page), click the link that reads “Click to view your system’s configuration in a new window“. This will open a Wordfence System Info page

I will do all of those but the page I am trying to scan is known as infected. That’s why I’m trying to scan to see and handle it using the plugin.
Hi @janqed,
I understand your site’s compromised but if you want to use Wordfence to locate the source(s) of the infection you’ll need to be able to run a scan.
Please look into our site cleaning guide; some steps can be done before/without running a scan. That might help get you started.
Also try and take a look at error logs which might provide some information about the issue you’re having.
