Just got Wordfence, but the scan isn’t working.

After fully setting it up, I try to run the scan, and it gets stuck around this area:

Scanning for unknown files in wp-admin and wp-includes

It just keeps “thinking…” and never moves away from this. Waited up to 40 minutes or so. Tried maybe 10 times during the day. Nothing. Keeps getting stuck.

Just FYI, I tried this on 6 different sites (all different setups, etc.) – scan gets stuck at the same places on all of them.

What steps have you taken to try to troubleshoot this so far?

What server are you using? IIS? Apache? Nginx? Litespeed?
Which version of PHP?

For us, to ensure scans always complete we’ve had to add a few lines to our .htaccess file (specific to Litespeed Web Server), and also change the maximum memory limit and maximum time per step in the Options page. Since then all scans have been successful.
