Try unchecking nearly all scan options, and experimenting. See following thread:

Personally, I don’t recommend doing Wordfence scanning at all unless you do it manually at times when server is at low load, or else use WFP and schedule the scans for when load is lowest. That’s based on my own experience, anyhow. I’m not highly impressed with WF scanning, I schedule it once a week, during night on weekend. I’d rather spend time hardening my site than sitting here waiting to see what intrusions a scan finds.
Hi @lordliverpool,
It shouldn’t take all that time to finish a scan normally, so I recommend keeping “Time limit that a scan can run in seconds” at the default value “3 hours”.
Please check the common reasons for “Scans don’t finish“, if none of these helped, then you can “Enable debugging mode” from (Wordfence > Tools => Diagnostics => Debugging Options), after that run a news scan and share any error message you may get in the scan activity log. (please use “Pastebin” if you decided to share large text portions from scan activity log).
Thanks.
@wfalaa
Thanks for replying.
I’ve set the time limit back to 0 (Default of 3 hours).
I’ve unchecked “Use low resource scanning”.
If the scan fails again then I’ll turn on debugging.
I’ll report back in a day or two.
Thanks for your help.
