    First time I have tried wordfence. testing free version first but problems with starting scan

    I did everything (I think) that is suggested at https://www.wordfence.com/help/scan/troubleshooting/?utm_source=plugin&utm_medium=pluginUI&utm_campaign=docsIcon#if-your-scans-arent-starting

    turn on remote scan
    checked with host provider for table integrity, not blocking wordfence servers
    no secondary admin pw
    checked ajax is working (return of “0”)

    also changed the max execution time to 20 (and also tried 30) plus added how much memory to request to 512

    don’t have “construction” plugin

    scan still doesn’t run. any help?

    Are you using Cloudflare? It might be rejecting the connecting back to your site.

    You may need to update your Cloudflare settings to allow your site to connect back to itself. You should be able to do this by going to your Cloudflare control panel.

    • Login to Cloudflare
    • Go to “Firewall”
    • Click the “Firewall Rules” tab
    • Click “Create a Firewall rule”
    • Name the rule under “Rule Name”
    • Set the “Field” under “When incoming requests match…” to “IP Address”
    • Enter your site’s IP address under “Value”
    • At the bottom, under “Then…Choose an action” change “Block” to “Allow”
    • Click “Deploy

    Once you have added your site to the Cloudflare Whitelist, head back over to your site and attempt another scan.

    yes. I use Cloudflare.

    I fail at Enter your site’s IP address since I have been unable to get that. I’ve tried Win10 tracert and various websites. I set this up with Cpanel on my webhost and also on the Cloudflare but I cannot remember how.

    any suggestions?

    You can find your site IP address on your Wordfence > Tools > Diagnostic page under the Connections section.

    You should see IP(s) used by this server – One will be your sites IP and one will be your cloudflare IP. Looking at your diagnostic, the IP that starts with 50.x.x.x is your sites IP.

    OK. thanks for that help. I was going nutz trying to find the ip

    so I added the firewall rule to cloudflare using my sites IP that starts with 50.x.x.x and deployed the rule

    still get “scan has failed to start” problem

    Try to navigate to Wordfence > Tools > Diagnostic > Debugging and toggle “Start All Scans Remotely”. Then return to the scan page and try a NEW scan.

    Sorry @williamtheis for the late reply.

    Can you paste your scan log now that you have the cloudflare rules set?

    If you could do the following steps for me:

    • Go to the Wordfence > Tools > Diagnostics page
    • In the “Debugging Options” section check the circle “Enable debugging mode”
    • Click to “Save Changes”.
    • CANCEL any current scan and start a NEW scan
    • Copy the last 20 lines from the Log (click the “Show Log” link) or so of the activity log once the scan finishes and paste them in this post.

    This will help me see exactly what is happening when the scan fails.
