Scan stage failed
-
Hi,
I run scan and It can not be completed due this error:
“Scan Stage Failed
A scan stage has failed to start. This is often because the site either cannot make outbound requests or is blocked from connecting to itself. “
what can I do?
Thanks.

Hi @avirec2,
Can you send a diagnostic report to wftest @ wordfence . com? You can find the link to do so at the top of the Wordfence > Tools > Diagnostics page. Then click on “Send Report by Email”. Please add your forum username where indicated and respond here after you have sent it.NOTE: It should look as follows – Screenshot of Tools > Diagnostic > Send by Email
Thanks,
MargaretThanks for your fast response.
I sent it.Hi @avirec2,
Thank you for sending diagnostics, however I wasn’t able to locate an email received from you. Please try sending the diagnostics again.
If your site has issues sending emails, you can also use Wordfence > Tools > Diagnostics > Export to download a copy of the diagnostics and email us those at wftest @ wordfence . com. Include your forum username in the subject and let us know when you’ve sent that.
Thanks,
MargaretHi Margaret,
I sent it now.
Thanks,
AviHi @avirec2,
Thank you for sending those! From the diagnostics, it looks like a scan may have succeeded recently, as I’m seeing some results from later stages in the scan. If you’re still seeing manual scans failing, please do the following for me:
- Stop any running scan by pressing the STOP SCAN button.
- Click on Scan Options and Scheduling.
- In Performance Options, set Maximum execution time for each scan stage to 20.
- In Advanced Scan Options, enable the option Use only IPv4 to start scans.
- Hit the SAVE CHANGES button.
- Go to Wordfence > Tools > Diagnostics and expand the Debugging Options section.
- Enable the option Enable debugging mode.
- Disable the option Start all scans remotely if it is enabled.
- Hit the SAVE CHANGES button.
- Start a new scan.
- Copy the last 20 lines or so of the activity log (click the “Show Log” link) once the scan finishes and paste them into this post.
Remember to disable Enable debugging mode after you have finished.
Thanks,

Hi @avirec2,
Thank you for sending those! Your scan stopped during the signature check. There have been reports in the past of this being caused by caching on the website, whether through a plugin or the hosting provider. Please try clearing any caching on your site and then scan the site again.
If after the cache has been cleared, it fails again on the same step, please try disabling all plugins except Wordfence and using a default theme such as Twenty Twenty-Four and run the scan once more to test for possible incompatibilities.
If the scan succeeds once your other plugins are disabled, you can re-enable them one at a time to determine when the problem reoccurs.
Please let us know how it goes!
Thanks,
MargaretHi,
Sorry for the delayed response.
I tried to scan again, after I disabled all the plugins accept wordfence, and I switched to default theme (twenty nineteen in this case), but It still can’t complete the scan.
This is the message:
“Scan Failed
The current scan looks like it has failed. Its last status update was 6 minutes ago. You may continue to wait in case it resumes or stop and restart the scan. Some sites may need adjustments to run scans reliably.”
Thanks,
