I am receiving the following error (free Wordfence automatic scan). The Custom Scan is at 60% and Malware Signatures: Community at 70%. I have tried running a scan again manually but received the same error message:

“A scan stage has failed to start. This is often because the site either cannot make outbound requests or is blocked from connecting to itself. Wordfence will make up to 2 attempts to resume each failed scan stage. This scan may recover if one of these attempts is successful.”

Any advice or help would be much appreciated! I’m at a pretty basic level of understanding on this issue.

Hi @nickyr, thanks for getting in touch.

It may help us to see a scan log and your diagnostics that could point towards an area we can look at.

    • Stop any existing scan if it is still running (The “Start New Scan” button turns into a “Stop” button while the scan is running).
    • Go to Wordfence > Scan > Manage Scan and locate the “Performance Options” section. Set “Maximum execution time for each scan stage” to 20.
    • Click to “Save Changes”.
    • Go to the Tools > Diagnostics page.
    • In the “Debugging Options” section check the circle “Enable debugging mode”.
    • If “Start scan remotely” is checked, uncheck this option.
    • Click to “Save Changes”.
    • Start a new scan on the Scan page.
    • If the scan fails again, copy the last 20 lines or so from the Log (click the “Show Log” link) once the scan finishes and paste them in the post.

You can then send a diagnostic report from Wordfence > Tools > Diagnostics to us at wftest @ wordfence . com. Click on “Send Report by Email”. Please add your forum username where indicated and respond here after you have sent it.

NOTE: It should look as follows – Screenshot of Tools > Diagnostic > Send by Email

    Thanks,
    Peter.

The latest WordFence update has resolved my issue. The scan runs to completion now.

Could you kindly close this thread and delete my list shown above of the last 20 lines from a previous Scan Log as I’m concerned it contains sensitive information.

    Thank you 🙂
