    Hello Wordfence Support,

I’m experiencing persistent “Scan Stage Failed” errors on a WordPress site hosted with Heart Internet (UK). The scan consistently fails at the “Server State” stage.

    Error Details:
“Server State” check with the message:
“A scan stage has failed to start. This is often because the site either cannot make outbound requests or is blocked from connecting to itself.”

    What I’ve Already Tried:
    – Deactivated all plugins except Wordfence – issue persists
    – Switched to default WordPress theme – issue persists
    – Deleted and reinstalled Wordfence (with full data deletion)
    – Set scan execution time to 15 seconds
    – Memory limit set to 256MB
    – Unchecked “Monitor Web Application Firewall status”
    – Verified cURL loopback connections work (tested with custom PHP script – HTTP 200 responses)
    – Confirmed ModSecurity is DISABLED in Plesk

    Site Health Shows:

    • REST API: Works (HTTP 200)
    • Loopback connections: Functional
    • No PHP session errors (after reinstall)

    Diagnostics – Connectivity:

    • “Connecting to Wordfence servers (https)”: ✅ OK
    • “Connecting back to this site via IPv6”: ❌ Not supported (cURL appears to be supported, but was not used by Wordfence)

The scan itself WORKS for malware detection and file scanning, but consistently fails at the “Server State” stage. Is there a way to skip this specific check, or is this a known issue with Heart Internet hosting?

Hi @kerolos68, thanks for getting in touch.

Did you try any of the troubleshooting methods via the link in your screenshot?. I believe that’s usually this page: https://www.wordfence.com/help/scan/troubleshooting/

The error mentions that the site may have trouble connecting to itself, but that’s omitted from the diagnostics connectivity information above. It’d usually be the first item.

If you have no joy with the standard troubleshooting, feel free to send us a copy of that page so we can take a closer look. You can send that to us at wftest @ wordfence . com. Click on “Send Report by Email” on the Diagnostics page itself. Please add your forum username where indicated and respond here after you have sent it.

NOTE: It should look as follows – Screenshot of Tools > Diagnostic > Send by Email

    Thanks,
    Peter.

    Hi @kerolos68,

I was unable to find a diagnostic in our inbox with your username attached. Did you still require assistance with this?

    Thanks,
    Peter.
