Could you please confirm if your news posts are added as a default post type on your site?
If so, then you can choose the NewsArticle schema for that.
Moreover, you can change that later on per post type basis in Rank Math > Titles & Meta > [Post type] > Schema type:

I haven’t added any news posts; I’ll do so in the future. Currently, I’ve only added regular blog posts. In this scenario, what should I do?

If you are publishing news articles then you should use the NewsArticle type otherwise you can use the Article or BlogPosting type for regular and evergreen content.
