    To amend this – actually 2 columns is fine so long as categories and tags go in the main column and then it makes more sense to have ‘Publish’ in the right hand column.

    It is not a typical requirement, that should include in a public solution for all users. I think a small custom Plugin on your side is helpful, more stable and faster.
