Is it possible to add a search tab to searchg for places listed on the map?
Search by name and or address etc?

Currently, that feature doesn’t exist. However it is definitely one we plan on adding. I’d love to get your feedback on what you’d like to see us build and how you’d like it to work in your use case: https://github.com/wpscholar/stellar-places/issues/5.
