Document Gallery cannot implement what you want, however it would be a good solution for the solution portion of your requirements. You would need to implement the search part yourself, but, once matching attachments are identified, the display portion can simply invoke do_shortcode using the DG shortcode and passing in the matched attachemts to DG’s ids field.

Functionality similar to this is exactly what I originally created this plugin for many years ago now so definitely possible 🙂
