Please let me know if you’re trying to replace WordPress search with instant search or autocomplete.
Additionally, the structure of the searchform on the left side does not look like it is a traditional WordPress search form.
Please try to use the default search widget or search block on a brand new page and see if the search is being triggered their firts.

I am trying to replace it with autocomplete. It works with the default search widget. However, not through the search icon on the header.
Yes, it is the custom theme so it could be some other way. Would you know how I can get this working?

For the autocomplete to work, you will need to replaced the custom search form on. the theme with either the default WordPress search form or by using the plugin autocomplete widget https://codemanas.github.io/cm-typesense-docs/shortcode/#autocomplete
