Search function returning dead links

    When searching on my site, some strings return a broken link to a resource that may’ve once existed but has since been deleted from our WordPress site.

    I have re-saved permalinks and flushed all my caches to try to fix the problem, but the WordPress database still returns (with an excerpt) a non-existent page in search results.

    Is there a way to clean out the database so the search function won’t return this errant result?

    I do not wish to change theme files (https://ww.wp.xz.cn/support/topic/secondary-or-child-pages-returning-a-404-error-after-wp-34-update?replies=11) and I like to avoid plug-ins since I don’t really trust the ones I found that tackle broken links.
