Have you tried:
– deactivating all plugins to see if this resolves the problem. If this works, re-activate the plugins one by one until you find the problematic plugin(s).
– switching to the Twenty Eleven theme to rule out any theme-specific problems.
– resetting the plugins folder by FTP or PhpMyAdmin. Sometimes, an apparently inactive plugin can still cause problems.

I found out the problem without doing any of the above – it’s searching case sensitive. So if the title of the post includes “Tyranny” and I search on “tyranny”, it’s finding nothing. If I search on “Tyranny”, it finds the post. So that solves that mystery. Now, how to fix…I have no idea.
Also, case sensitive or not, doesn’t seem to be search on author names. Should it?

And, btw, I deactivated all the plug-ins and switched to Twenty Eleven – that did nothing – still search case sensitive.
