    Hi there,

We have SG Security activated on most of our staging websites and some of our live sites, and it appears that recently all websites with SG Security installed have started to go reeeeally slow. Sometimes they even throw up 500 server errors.

As soon as this plugin is deactivated they speed up right away.

I have tried disabling all settings within the plugin but for some reason just the fact that it is active makes the site slow down.

This happens even when it is the only active plugin.

Apart from just removing it from all my sites, I would prefer to know if there is a bug or if there is some way you can take a look further?

    Cheers,
    David

    Hello @davidlipschitz,

I took the time to test the performance of aberdeen.spiralorbdesigns.com on my end while our plugin is active and disabled. There was no performance degradation during my tests as the website loads without any delay or any issues whatsoever. The reported 500 errors, however, lead me to believe that a greater issue was at hand and the general server performance affected the websites rather than the plugin itself. Nevertheless, can you provide a bit more details about the issues such as steps to take to recreate them, additional websites that experience it, any particular timeframes during which the issues are present.

    Best Regards,

    Hi Simeon,

    Thanks for the prompt response.

I had deactivated SG Security on aberdeen.spiralorbdesigns.com, but I have reactivated it now so you should be able to run some tests now.

The 500 errors were coming up once I signed in through /wp-admin. If needed I can give you credentials to the back end if there is a way to send these securely?

I have had to deactivate the plugin on a few other sites but one that it is still active on is https://sophiaharvey.com/. This one was experiencing similar issues but now seems okay, though this may only be due to caching, so I’m not sure if it will be slow for you.

    Thanks for your time,
    David

    Hello David,

I tested both sites where the SG Security plugin is active, and saw no degraded performance. I also believe that the reported issue is not directly related to the plugin.

If you still see 500 errors while logging in, please open a ticket with SiteGround and provide your login details there, so we can investigate it further.

    Best Regards,
    Dimitar Terziev
