security sanner does not work (errors)
-
Hi,
just starting to work with your plugin. On my productive site (attached) the scanner always stops with server error “504” on https://xxxxx.com/wp-admin/admin-ajax.php?_fs_blog_admin=true and the respective scanner scripts.
On other subdomain installations and my staging copy the scanner works fine.
Kind Regards

Hi! Use diagnostic logging: https://wpcerber.com/troubleshooting-malware-scanner/
Hi,
set the diagnostic log, but I guess the log is not very helpful, it is this:
[June 10, 2020, 8:17 pm][Scanner] >>>>>>>>>>>>>>> START SCANNING: full, memory: 768M
[June 10, 2020, 8:17 pm][Scanner] Preparing for the scan (step 0)
[June 10, 2020, 8:17 pm][Scanner] Scanning folders for files (step 1)
[June 10, 2020, 8:18 pm][Scanner] Scanning folders for files (step 1)
[June 10, 2020, 8:19 pm][Scanner] Scanning folders for files (step 1)
I created a more comprehensive log directly from the google console, but as I am not a pro member yet, I don’t know where to send that (if possible)
The scanner performs badly due to insufficient server resources.
ok, what is needed in terms of ressources?
My current settings are:
memory_limit:768M
max_execution_time:600I am not sure, maybe the issue is caused by the large amount of entries of cerber in the database (65k in cerber_files)
Just a normal MySQL server and normal disk. One of these is to slow. What’s the number of files shown on the scanner page?
65k in cerber_files can be the issue on a really slow MySQL server.
There are no numbers of files shown while scanning, because it does not even succeed. I opened a ticket to my siteground hosting
Here is what they said:
I checked all server side logs and could confirm that there are no issues with the server or the MySQL service running on the server at all. In fact the server is currently performing flawlessly and is keeping low and stable load values and the MySQL service is properly executing all queries submitted to it by our clients websites. However, I was able to trace the errors that you were receiving and they are caused by the fact that some of the scripts that are executed by your plugin/application are timing out before the response for the browser could be compiled and/or the scripts could complete executing. Example logs from the webservice for your convinience below:[Mon Jun 15 20:37:51.709264 2020] [:warn] [pid 9127] [client xx.xxx.144.71:35542] Timeout waiting for output from CGI script /home/mypage/public_html/wp-admin/admin-ajax.php, referer: https://mypage.com/wp-admin/admin.php?page=cerber-integrity&tab=scan_main

the cerber_files in my database has reached 1 GB, I need to reduce it. Is there any proper way to do that, or simply just delete it?
You can empty this table.
Disable “Scan temporary directory” and “Scan session directory”. Open the browser console. Start scanning. Watch the progress in the console.
That does not change anything, console is as described at the beginning of this thread.
As cerber scan is working with no issues on my subdomains (which are for testing purposes only), it probably must have something to do with running it on the main domain installation. I also did a test on that installation with deactivating every single plugin, but it did not solve the issue with scanning.
Hi, back again,
Just made a fresh copy to my main domain, deleting its wordpress installation upfront. As Cerber (scanner) is working with no problems on the subdomain I am copying it from, I now expected the same for the main domain. But the scanner is still not getting thru, it even does not start with counting the number of files to be scanned in a first step, scanning process is aborted after a couple of minutes due to server error.
As I love your plugin and would like to continue using it on my production site (main daomain), do you have any idea why the scanner only fails on the main domain, but is working on all other domains and subdomains? I am hosting with shared server on Siteground.
Best
Sorry, I got it! The reason was, that under the public_html folder there was a shortcut “www”, which refers in to public_html (and causes cerber on root level (main domain) into an endless loop).
All up and running now
Good news!
