Send private link to edit multiple subscriptions

    Hi!

    I’m encountering some trouble with the setup of the participants database of our club. We have a kajakclub where members are present in the database. Although, there are different records with the same e-mailadress (father and son for example).

    If they want to edit their info or renew their subscription, they should be able to do that. But when I try to send a private link using the common e-mailaddress, it doesn’t seem to arrive in the mailbox. Moreover, I don’t know what will happen, or to which record the private link would send me. I noticed that the identifier has to be unique, thus in this example it’s not the e-mailaddress (and the private link mail still isn’t coming through)

    Is there a possibility to acces (in this example) the two records? I saw that should be possible if I’m not mistaken: http://xnau.com/adding-an-edit-record-link-to-the-frontend-list/
    However, how can I get the father get to that page? The ideal situation would be if it could be done with the private link.

    While it is possible to set up the database to allow multiple records with the same email address, a setup like that is not compatible with the idea that a private link can be sent to an email address to give a specific person access to their record.

    It sounds like, in your case, the private links will need to be sent manually…in other words, you’d send an email to all the people sharing a particular email address with the private links for each of their accounts.

    The setting for checking for duplicate records is in the plugin settings under the “Signup Form” tab. If you set it to allow multiple records with the same email address, what will happen is when each person signs up, they will receive their private link in an email. That will work OK, because the person’s name can also be in that email.

    The problem will be if they try to get their private link again, using the “get private link” button, you won’t have a way to identify which record to get the private link for, since the email address won’t be unique.

    Actually I did get it working in the meantime!
    The solution is quite simple: in combination with the setting that multiple records with the same e-mail is possible, instead of using the e-mailaddress as the identifier to resend the private link, it can easily be another field. E.g. their social security number or just a (required) field that they choose themselves.
    Of course, in the latter, you have the (limited in my case with only 250 members) possibility that they choose the same identifier. It’s tricky to choose that same field as records can be overwritten with an import.
    With a social security number you know for a fact it is going to be unique.
