• Hi Guys,

I’ve been tasked to get my website to appear on at least the second page in Google.

    I am having some difficulties.

I spent the last few days finding all the information I could get my hands on in regards to SEO.

From what i’ve been researching and implementing, I thought it was pretty much as optimized as it could get. It’s still not anywhere near the second page on Google.

Any advice would be much appreciated.

    Thanks in advance,

  • SEO is hard. Very hard. At least when it’s done properly.

How much time have you devoted to this so far? From what I’ve seen it can take 6 to 12 months to get close to second page for competitive keywords, and the real estate industry has some of the most competitive out there.

SEO is not all about optimising your site. this is only a very very small part of it all. Proper SEO is more about creating godo back links to your site from other sites. There’s a lot of different ways that you can do this. Some are good and some are bad. so, start building back links and that will get you somewhere – but remember that it does take a long time to get the rankings up there.

You should spend some time doing off-page SEO. We have a few projects which came up on first page because of the offpage in just 3-4 months. And ofcourse ON page SEO also have its impact in SEO.
I hope you are blogging regularly on your site, as google love sites with fresh & constantly updating content

    Thanks for the response guys,

Been working on the site for roughly 2 months now. Been doing a bit of research surrounding the keywords. But as far as I can see, some of the sites that are before mine look, well… pathetic.

I don’t really understand how they are ranked before mine considering the content within them is somewhat lacking.

Ugh, having a hard time getting my head around how it works.

OK, think of it this way…

IT’S GOT ALMOST NOTHING TO DO WITH CONTENT.

The content of the site is a prt of it, and is important, but ranking in the SERP’s takes backlinks. Nothing else will work.

Content is not king. Got it.

    Thanks for the advice.

As to link-building, linking to poorly ranked sites, links from poorly ranked sites, unnatural looking links (bought links, etc.), are to be monitored because they can reduce your rankings. The two recent Algorithm updates, Panda and Penguin, by Google targeted this types of links, and many more parameters as a result of which many highly ranking sites lost their positions in the SERPs, while some sites that were way below came on top of the first page.

Content is king. Backlinks help, but especially over the past year Google has been slapping “unnatural” backlink building and content issues.

Your site is overoptimized. Google is probably putting some smack down because of keyword stuffing.

If you are thinking of completing a Real Estate course online, click on the link to Intellitrain who offer a real estate course which will enable you to get the real estate qualification you need to sell real estate with a rewarding, interactive approach.

That’s “real estate” 4 times in one sentence, along with a capitalized keyword.

Another major issues is that the design and content in no way stands out from the hundreds of others sites like it. Fix the keyword abuse and redo the content so it’s more than common filler.

What TPI Studios pointed out above can be interpreted as keyword stuffing that can take you down, much down. Added to that on the same page there are instances linking to the same page multiple times, and internal linking to the same (other page) more than once. These are unnatural and and irrelevant.

The site seems to be still work-in-progress. I do not find any incoming links so far, while there are several instances of unwanted internal links. Avoid these aspects, and try to get some other sites, possibly of the same niche, linking to your site.

At least you are not going for page 1. In real estate page 1 is dominated by the big boys so it is very difficult for us small guys to get in to page 1.

    1. You are promoting a real estate course so you may not want to compete with the big real estate agencies for position. You may want to use different keywords for each post and try to use keywords that don’t compete directly with sellers of properties – the big boys. If you see my baking blog you will notice I have a variety of topics / posts with each one having their own keyword, see http://bachutha.com so that I get visitors for various reasons. Some pages appear on page one and others on other pages of a Google search but that does not matter. What matters is that I am getting visitors (about 400 per day) and building reputation and trust with my readers. Eventually, that pays off. Took about a year to get to 400 visitors per day. Also you may want to get a professional SEO package to analyse each page and rank it.

You could write articles on job opportunities in real estate, or how to go about valuing properties which may create interest in your courses, from buyers and job seekers. Explain about investment opportunities and how to project ROI which may attract the interest of bankers, asset managers and accountants, can job seekers get a grant to attend your courses? … I too have a “real estate” site (see http://www.drpetersnews.com) so I know how difficult it can be but don’t get discouraged as the experienced gained will help you with other blogs or websites in the future.

    2. Back links are very important but as you will notice from my blog I hardly go out to build back links myself. So I was not affected by the April Goolge back link massacre, in fact my positioned improved. Remember Google takes notice of your blog if people take notice of your blog.

    3. When I first started blogging I was writing in Google English but now I have dropped it for a more sane writing style. People return to your site if they find it interesting. Having a boring blog at number one position in search engine results will let everyone know, very quickly, that your blog is the one to avoid. So top ranking may be a double edged sword.

    4. The thing I did notice with both my sites was that when I was writing two quality articles a week for about two to three months my Google page rank moved from 0 to 2. That was a short very intensive few months. I don’t write at that pace any more as it can be quite exhausting.

    5. Make your site memorable if you want return visitors. I’m using Atahualpa theme.

    6. Use http://www.google.com/insights/search/ to checkout your keywords. Some times using a popular keyword will guarantee you the last position in Google search as everyone else is using it too. Sometimes using a keyword that is not popular guarantees that you will never be found. Also, keywords go through fashionable phases. Some months or years they are very popular and at other times no one searches for them.

    7. Once you have published an article on your blog don’t keep editing it and changing it frequently. If you do that you will find it listed on page 1000 of Google search engine results. It happened to me a few times in the early days of blogging so now I don’t change an article once published.

    I do hope this helps.

    @brett.manuel,

The above post by peter achutha can be treated as an excellent guide for you. Follow it properly. (I suggest copy and keep it for reference). And avoid black hat SEO practices like keyword stuffing, excessive internal linking, etc. Can you tell me why you want to link to this page in this post a few times? You have pages doing exactly that.

And use proper anchor keywords in meta tags, use title and alt tags etc., including for images. For images try embedding descriptions, keywords (tags), etc. before uploading because search engines cannot read images. Instead of naming your images ‘picture1.jpg’, try something like trainees-at-our-real-estate-training-institute.jpg.

However, I do not want to go deeper as SEO itself is a big industry, and uses several concepts that can be written in thousands of books. There are SEO forums, like the one by WebPro News, and several others. Join some of them.
