SEO Data Optimization is Not Good

Month after Month we have attempted to run an SEO Data Optimization. Our site is quite profound, so it takes about 2.5 hours to get 75% through the process; only to reach an error.. with no option to continue.. only to start over.. and wait another 2.5hr’s to find out if our solution worked. Which it did not. Hopefully you can understand how poor this feature/operation is and how frustrating this can be to anyone with a significantly large website. Attached is the error this time.

For the next attempt we will do the following:

1.) Disabling Cloudflare
2.) Download Yoast SEO Helper Plugin
2a.) Reset indexables tables & migrations
2b.) Reset Prominent words calculation
2c.) Reset Internal link counter
3.) Resetting Permalinks with “Save Changes” on Settings>Permalinks
4.) Purging WPCache

Here we go. See you in 2.5 hours I guess…..

Hey @tanner96,

Thank you for reaching out and for persisting in finding a solution to the issue you experienced. In most cases, the “failed to fetch” error is due to the host or the site disabling or limiting the REST API. The SEO data optimization uses the REST-API to go through the content on your site to optimize the Yoast data in our own indexables tables.

Glad to see you were able to complete the process over WP-CLI, which is recommended on a big site. I will check with the content team to have a link to https://developer.yoast.com/features/wp-cli/reindex-indexables/ on our help article. Thank you for your feedback.

@jeroenrotty Sounds like a plan. However, I mean adding a notice when the failure occurs within the admin panel.

Such as, “Have a large site? Try WP-CLI. READ MORE”
