SEO Framework and Subdirectory

    Hello,

    At our main website, we have the SEO Framework installed and it doing a great job. Now we have set up a new website including a WooCommerce shop at the subdirectory; https://flashportals.com/eflash/ and at this new site we have installed the SEO Framework as well. We have created this new site’s own metadata, which is different from the main site. We are using the same social media as the main site, but the social image will be different. The site also have its own sitemap, so we operate with two sitemaps now. Is this the right way to do or are we making any problems with this setup?

    Please also give us a feedback on the Google Search Console verification code, the Bing Webmaster verification code, the Yandex Webmaster verification code and the Pinterest Analytics verification code; can we use the same as in the main site or shall we set up new, or shall we not have any at all for our new subdirectory website?

    Hi Finn,

    There’s nothing wrong with that setup 🙂 it’s common, even. And, the segregation makes it more manageable.

    We use such a setup too on our site, albeit through subdomains rather than subdirectories: premium., eu., and kb.

    Having multiple sitemap files is also standard, but search engines won’t be aware of such an endpoint at subdirectory-level. So, it’s best to submit them all via the respective webmaster tools manually.

    As for the verification codes/keys: because your sites are connected (in the eyes of search engines) as you’re using a subdirectory-installation, it’s best to keep supporting that behavior. Moreover, many of the webmaster tools only look on the homepage for such a code, so the inclusion of the subdirectory domain is implied. With all that said, yes, you can use the same key, and I recommend using the same key.
