I am not sure where to post this, this is not strictly a WooCommerce question, more a SEO question. So I’m sorry if this is not the right place.

I’m having what some may view as an extreme luxury problem 🙂 I am getting too many orders in my webshop and I am working part-time on a different kind of project now. I have decided not to increase my prices further and am looking for a different way to slow down business a bit for a while (some months).

I used to sell on a platform where I could simply open and close my store at will. But running your own webshop is of course different, and I do not want to close down business, so I need to find a different kind of “switch”. What I would like to do is hide from the search engines a little bit, while still providing good service to my regular customers.

I have disabled my search engine optimalisation plug-in, but that does not seem to really have an effect (probably because I have followed its tips and tricks and those are still in place, and I don’t want to remove all of that permanently).

So my question is: What would be the easiest “switch” to control traffic? Is there maybe some plugin, something that I can do with Google, or something I can do with the pages of my WordPress site that would slow down traffic? I am looking for something that I can easily revert later on, when I have time to process more orders. It’s OK if it takes some days/weeks until it is effective. Any suggestions? Thanks!

  • Hello @teuptworkshop ,

    Thanks for reaching out.

I must say this is a luxury to have this problem 🙂

Now, I believe the SEO plugin you are using can mostly help you out to stop search engines index any more or crawl your pages. In that way, with time Google will stop ranking you on top.

Here is a good article that covers most of the options to de-index from Google/search engines – How to Stop Search Engines from Crawling a WordPress Site

As you have mentioned, these will take time to slow down also to get back in raking in the future. I can only recommend being patient after enabling/disabling the necessary feature.

    Thank you 🙂

Hi, thanks for your reply. I was not aware of that option to discourage search engines from indexing my site.. looks like exactly the “switch” I need!

I will try that out first, and see what it does over the coming weeks. thanks!
