I don’t think you will have any issues with the front page even if it’s all widget based content. Just make sure your images have ALT tags with image descriptions, widget titles are using keywords (if you can achieve that), your front page browser title as well…
I’m not sure what you mean by “getting around this issue” because unless you have actual page content, your secondary content (widgets) becomes your primary content.
Although this is not really a theme related issue, it’s more content based, what specifically were you needing in your page for SEO ?
Please receive such a late reply to your answer…my back went out and life also went sideways. I’ll get back to this question shortly but will start a new post on an issue with the Longevity latest version update.
May I ask if you have a favorite SEO plugin or maybe don’t use one? All I am looking for is for Google to pick up on the home page of this new website which is an unusual name and should not be an issue http://rossrooke.ca/
I have added title/alt and descriptions to my images on my home page and still the Yoast plugin does not recognize any images on the page…could it have anything to do with my home page being set up as sidebars only? I’m grasping at straws to figure this out, as well as why Goggle says that my pages author and updates are missing and all kind of other errors that are not allowing for proper indexing…I’ll get back to this tomorrow.
Thanks for listening.
I don’t use an SEO plugin and never tried any, so I won’t be able to help with a suggestion, other than checking the available SEO plugins and read the reviews and try them out. I know Yoast is very popular.
Plugins can only do so much, but successful SEO and getting ranked high in Google is going to really depend on your site’s content, keywords, titles, anchor text, ALT tags for images, and so on. Generally it’s the basics of creating content that really counts which is what Google focuses on.
As for Yoast no recognizing any images on the page, you might want to ask them about that. It also should not matter if your page content is done in just widgets or an actual content area….as long as you have real content in the page and follow the basics of seo, you should be fine.
One of the updates I’m going to be doing with the next one is improving the scheme.org stuff for microdata because there is room for improvement. So with regards to “author” and “updates”, this will be part of it. (I’ve written this one down to make sure it’s on my list of updates).
Thank you for clarifying. I have looked through the Yoast plugin again and since their new update there seems to be a higher than usual number of people that are having issue with it…including not recognizing items/images. I am considering de-activiating it. I’ll continue to add Alt tags and titles, etc…and explore the world of Google.
I’ve noticed that it seems that my images are mostly not attached to any pages, so I’ll be doing this manually. Most of my images are either part of wp gallerie or Envira gallery, so I’ll have to research there to find out why they do not automatically attach to pages when uploaded. Lots to look into through various forums…
Thanks for putting the scheme.org improvements on the list for the next Theme update…anything and all that can help being found in cyberspace :))
Thank you again,
Blessings of appreciation and gratitude
No worries….and I just noticed I called it scheme.org but should be schema.org….I need more sleep π
Happy New Year Shaped Pixels, I hope you were gifted with a lot of sleep for the year to come :))
A quick question that I hope you can answer or direct me where I can get an answer.
I would like to edit this thread that I started and remove the URL links to the website that I name in this thread, or remove the thread all together, since it is not directly concerning the Longevity theme but a plugin that is faulty.
It’s a bit of a cosmic joke to have this thread come up in a Goggle search of my website, when the website URL doesn’t…and the thread is about a faulty SEO plugin π
I am just not finding where to do edits which is rather unusual…do you have such powers? π
Blessings in advance for your attention
You may need to request that from the WordPress support forum because there is a time limit on when the “edit” expires, so you will want to try and direct your post to the moderators. They will be the ones who can remove the links.
I think this one might be the forum for your request:

….and Happy New Year as well!
Thank you so much..always so helpful you are.
