• Hi – not sure if this is the place to ask, but i am having an issue with Search Engine Optimization.

A number of (photography) galleries on my site are not appearing in the Google SE index (which means, of course, that nobody can find them on-line!). I submitted a site map to google, but i am not sure if “keyword stuffing” may or may not be the issue.

Can keyword stuffing be a problem when with multiple uses of the same descriptor in Alt Text? For example, i have a gallery of images (some 20 to 30) of the Mississippi River. If i use the word Mississippi in the Alt Text for most of the images – can this possibly cause removal of the URL from search engine visibility?

Some feedback would be much appreciated. Thanks.

  • 1. Look for errors listed in your Webmaster tools account. If nothing is reported as errors, generally there is nothing to worry about.
    2. If all the images, or a good number of them are appearing on the same page/ post/ URL, try using the exact descriptions of the images that cannot be only Mississippi River.
    3. Try to analyze the total number of words in the page and find out the percentage of Mississippi River in each page. If it is above 5% there is a good possibility of Google treating it as a matter of keyword stuffing. Try to keep it at less than 5%.

Thanks Krishna. I believe that i have managed to keep individual keywords down to below 5% each (when i count all words included in the page intro text, image title, and alt text -, i.e. the text that shows up in a lynx browser).

However, i now have the odd problem that, out of a gallery of, say, 25 images, only a handful are showing up in google image searches. (sometimes when i copy and paste the alt text, i get no returns at all in the search). My page does appear to be indexed properly in Google.

Could it be that Google believes that Alt text of individual images are a problem and pushes only that image out of the search?

    Thanks.

Never. In fact Google advises to properly use alt text, image title tags, etc. properly so that search engines can read them as SEs are image blind and cannot read them.

Can you post a URL where you find the problem to be acute?
