    Hello,

Since a recent update of the WooCommerce Stripe Gateway plugin, all subscriptions using SEPA direct debit are shown as “manual renewal” in the WooCommerce admin, even though they are still set as “automatic” in the database.

    Here are the observed facts:

    • SEPA is enabled and fully functional on the frontend (checkout).
    • In the database, two payment method identifiers exist: stripe_sepa and stripe_sepa_debit.
    • Existing subscriptions using stripe_sepa are no longer properly recognized, and are marked as “manual renewal” in the backend.
    • The SEPA method no longer appears among the available payment methods in the subscription admin view.

Could you please consider a fix that would:

    • either restore proper detection of stripe_sepa subscriptions as automatic,
    • or ensure SEPA is again displayed as a valid payment method in the subscription admin screen?

    Thank you for your help.

  • Hi @coccidev,

Thank you for reaching out and for providing such a detailed explanation. I’d like to better understand your setup and the issue you’re describing.

First, could you clarify which admin screen you’re referring to? Please share a screenshot so I can see exactly where the payment method isn’t appearing.

Additionally, could you provide two screenshots of the order details for a SEPA payment—one showing how it’s expected to appear, and another showing what you’re currently seeing? This will help me fully understand the difference.

Lastly, please share your system status report by going to WooCommerce > Status > Get system report > Copy for support, so I can review your site’s configuration and provide more accurate assistance.

    Hello coccidev,

    Thank you for your reply.

I’ve reviewed it and noticed that two plugins related to the subscription feature are currently active:
1- WooCommerce Subscriptions – Cancel on Refund by Prospress Inc. – Version 1.0.0
2- WooCommerce Subscriptions – Disable Report Cache Updates by Prospress Inc. – Version 1.0

Could you please check if the issue also occurs with a simple, non-subscription product? Specifically, see whether SEPA Direct Debit payments are still marked as “manual renewal” in the WooCommerce admin.

Additionally, I recommend reaching out to the subscriptions plugin support team for more detailed guidance on this behavior. They may be able to offer insights specific to your configuration.

Looking forward to your response. 🙂

Thank you for your patience while we investigated this for you. We can confirm that there appears to be an issue with the new payments experience Beta and Stripe’s payment methods. Our developers are working on this.

You can disable the beta experience in WooCommerce > Settings > Advanced as in the screenshot below, to fix the issue.

    Hello @nicw

Unchecking Payments Settings (beta) did the trick.
