Serious Page Problem

Hello everyone, I need some serious help!
I’ve just bought myself 12 months WordPress with the hopes of setting up a sports website – my friend had a site but scrapped it so I decided to make one.
Because it’s a sport site ideally I want to have my home page to have the latest posts, links, little links to the other pages etc.
With the pages I would like each page to have articles written by us on them.
However, I am new to WordPress and I have found that when I create a new page, it creates it as if the page itself is an article. What I want is to be able to have a page which, when clicked on, shows a list of articles related to it. So for example a page on ‘Football’ when clicked on should display articles that we have written on football.
How can I do this? And how can I set it so that when my friends log in and they post, it goes on the right page etc?
