I figured out the crop issue. But the image does not appear as the featured image (header). I am trying to have 32 different headers on 32 pages. Am I knocking my head against a wall?
Are you using the Twenty Eleven theme?
Are all of your images at least 1000px wide by 288px high?
No but I can crop them to that size. I figured out why they weren’t being saved
I cropped an image, set it as featured, used no parent and showcase template. That worked for one image but the second came back with the original header. The fourth came with the original header and setup a cycle through my image libaray!!!!

The first page I created worked as expected. The second page came back with the poriginal header even though the featured image was different. The third page I created came up with the header , no featured image and small arrows in the body that cycled through the media library. In all cases I had not put anyhting in the body of the page, just a title and the image.

Are these Pages or Posts? Or are they paginated Pages or Posts?. A few links to pages demonstrating the problem might be helpful
THey are all pages. I can restore the pages ( I deleted them out of frustration) and provide you the URL

Yes, that is the problem. They all have different featured images, but only one actually worked or showed up
My guess is that the other images are not the correct size. Try resizing/cropping the images to the correct size before you upload them to your site.
