    Hi,

I’m unsure about this so thought to ask.

What exactly does ‘Pass query string to destination url?’ mean or do?

Do I take it that once checked, it passes the actual affiliate link (not the cloaked one) over to the target site?

    Many Thanks

  • Hi @rik0399,

Thanks for the question – we’re still pulling docs together about this feature as it’s brand spanking new 🙂

Query strings are those little bits of extra information on the end of links that you see sometimes like:

    https://www.google.com/search?source=hp&q=funny+cats&oq=funny+cats

Affiliate links also have these usually like http://example.com/?affid=1233 or something like that.

What this does is let you cloak an affiliate link like so:

    Cloaked: http://yoursite.com/recommends/example/
    Destination: http://example.com/?affid=1233

But then also if you want you can add some extra query string data like so:

    http://yoursite.com/recommends/example/?foo=bar

And this will go through to:

    http://example.com/?affid=123&foo=bar

Basically whatever you put on the end of your cloaked URL will be passed through to the affiliate link when it’s being redirected.

This is great for programs that allow you to add extra tracking codes.

    Hope this makes sense!

    Cheers,

    Hi,

    Thanks for that,

So just adding the affiliate link to be cloaked, will not be affected ‘as is’ right?

    Many Thanks

    No problem 🙂

I’ve written up a better explanation here:

    https://thirstyaffiliates.com/knowledgebase/how-query-string-passing-works

Correct, the query string passing setting is totally optional and only if you want to use this feature of adding extra query string data (primarily for extra tracking).

Let me know if you have any more questions about it 🙂

    Cheers,
    Josh

    Hi Josh,

I appreciated your time on this, a good read for sure 😉

I do have a suggestion for Thirsty Affiliates rather than download yet another plugin.

It seems to me that your ‘missing a trick’, unless I haven’t spotted it!

    Suggestion :

It would be a HUGE bonus if a selection of shortners could be added i.e. Goo.gle, Bitly and the likes; so the affiliate links created by Thirsty Affiliates could then be ‘shrunk down’ to decent shortner i.e. goo.gl/aMaLnE

    Anyway, thanks gain 🙂

    Hey @rik0399,

    No problems!

    It’s like you’re reading our mind 😀

This feature is planned for 1.1.0 and is under testing as we speak!

    Hi Josh,

    Lol! I figured you were…

The thing to also perhaps bear in mind is to allow it to ‘automatically’ create the shortner in a field below the generated thirtyaffiliate link.

Adding this feature will act as magnet for your sales!

Happy to test it for you 🙂

    Regards
