Are we able to set the default to ‘No’ and only enable their edit rights for the page when they are required to edit?

Hi @shaominchua. The default is set by the WordPress core.

So you can use a plugin like PublishPress Capabilities to change the defaults: https://ww.wp.xz.cn/plugins/capability-manager-enhanced/

For example, you can use that plugin to change “edit pages” to “No”. Then use PublishPress Permissions to change specific pages.
