Setting up – quick question

    I was able to get WP up and running if I keep everything in a folder at the root of my domain called “wordpress” – but that forces me to have to redirect my homepage to the WP index.php file.

    Is there any way to have WP run at the root level of the domain, WITHOUT being in a folder called “wordpress”?

    Yes.

    You have two choices:
    1 – Just upload all the files to root. Index.php should then be your visitors first place to hit when they arrive.

    2 – Do the “two directories thing” as detailed here:

    Thank you for the quick response, the link you provided answered my question.

    I have tried installing everything at the root level, but it seems something just doesn’t work correctly when I do that. I guess it could be that my web host has something going on that only allows .html files to be the index… I dunno.

    You could also put an index.php file in your root directory, which redirects to the index.php file in your WordPress directory. Just create an index.php file with only the following line:
    <?php header('Location: http://www.domain.com/wordpress/index.php'); ?>

    Ask your host to check their apache httpd.conf file for .php index files to be allowed- it’s incredibly easy for them to add.
