• This plug-in displays the most basic data about your website from various Google services in the WordPress backend. Setup is easy as long as you don’t have any security plugins blocking your REST API.

Please note that this plugin is able to insert Google tags into your website as well, but you will need to configure this properly.

@martinsauter Sorry to hear you are encountering issues. I would be happy to assist you in resolving this. In many cases this issue can arise with REST API restrictions, or security plugin configurations. Can you let me know of the following:
    – What is your site URL/domain?
    – Do you have any security/optimisation plugins installed?
    – Who is your website hosted with?

You can also test on a staging site or with another site you have access with, using the same web host and with minimal plugins activated.

In the meantime I have installed version 1.1.1 of the Site Kit plugin, and now it gives me an actionable error message which refers to a potential blocking of the REST API by security plugins as well.

This was indeed the problem in my case, and now the setup works without problems.

    Thanks for your feedback.

@martinsauter Great to hear, and thanks for the update! Out of curiously which security plugin were you using?

More than one, but the one that blocked the REST API is WP Cerber.

Good to know, thanks @martinsauter. I use the plugin myself so I should be able to check the configuration settings.
