What is the proper setup for multilingual support (via Weglot) if using the WP Cookiebot plugin? Is the only way to detect language by using a GTM variable directly in GTM? If so, it would be great if that could be a plugin setting instead.

    Hi @yellowhousedesign

Thanks for reaching out with your question – happy to clarify this!

Currently, the WP Cookiebot plugin supports setting the cookie banner and cookie declaration language based on the user’s geographic location, when that option is enabled in the plugin settings.

If you’re using Weglot and want the Cookiebot banner and declaration to follow the language indicated in the URL (or by Weglot itself), this is not handled automatically by the plugin at the moment.

In that case, the recommended approach is indeed to detect the language via Google Tag Manager (using a GTM variable based on the URL) or by using inline code. We have step-by-step guides available for both of these methods:

That said, your suggestion to make language detection (e.g. from the URL or Weglot) available directly as a plugin setting is very much appreciated. I’ve shared this feedback with our plugin development team so they can consider it for future improvements.
