I haven’t tried it but if you look in the sample-config file it gives instructions which seem to indicate that this is possible.

I currently run 4 weblogs off of my 1 WordPress database. Works great for me. And I plan to run more.

Are the instructions on the Codex for 1.5 or 1.2? I might have missed it but I don’t think it said.
The material on Codex is aimed at 1.5, but the instructions on setting up multiple blogs will work with 1.2.
