    WP VERSION 3.7.3

I have NextGen Gallery installed in multi-site and never had an issue.
Today I notice that on two of the sites, the galleries do not display, there are just placeholder thumbnails. Click on it and it says “The requested content cannot be loaded. Please try again later.”
I have three sites on the same template.
The third site works just fine, but sites 1 and 2 do not.
    Please advise on a fix.

@rookie – I would recommend updating both WordPress and NextGEN to their current releases and see if the problem persists.

    Cais –

Thanks, but I don’t understand why all 3 sites (multi-site environment) are all on the same WP and NextGen version – 2 stopped displaying galleries and the 3rd is perfectly fine. (?)

@rookie – How old is the Multisite installation and how old are the “sites” in question?

Multisite has changed in how it stores its relevant site files over time and we have tried to adapt to both structures. In some cases, due to the different structures you will see similar “sites” in a Multisite not work as expected.

Updating to the latest versions of WordPress and NextGEN Gallery should take care of most (all?) of these path issues.

It was installed in October, 2013

No changes in setup were made during the implementation of the 3 sites referenced, that’s what confuses me

@rookie – The Multisite is “current” or in other words it will likely not be a path issue and the structures of the path in the working and non-working sites appear to be correct … the difference being the non-working sites are returning 500 errors for all of the thumbnails.

Unfortunately this is a very generic message so it may take more looking into still … can you verify the file and folder permissions are correct for the non-working sites? This will at least remove that from the equation.

Otherwise you could try using the Reset Option and then clearing the image cache.

I appreciate you following up with me to try and resolve this.
I cleared the image cache, no luck there.

I went into the gallery and selected a thumbnail and chose EDIT THUMB.

    Here are the results:

Does this shed any light on the issue?

@rookie – Because the thumbnails were returning 500 errors for each that error message does not surprise me as it basically can be expected if the thumbnail is not available in your case.

Try creating new thumbnails under Gallery > Manage Galleries … select the gallery. Select all of the images then using the drop-down select Create new thumbnail and click Apply. Save afterwards and clear the image cache again.

Ok, I did that and get another error message.
    I cannot create new thumbnails

The error message will not allow copy/paste, so here’s a quick walk-through:

I just noticed that the page is returning a 404 Error:

    http://4430sw70th.caplisted.com/wp-content/blogs.dir/3/files/photos-details-1

    Plugin Contributor photocrati

    (@photocrati)

@rookie – Thanks for the video … basically you are running into the equivalent of a 404 error where the main image is not being found.

You might try the “Recover from backup” for these images to see if that will return them. As it appears right now, the “link” to the images appears to be broken.

Have you verified the images are actually in the correct place and the file and folder permissions are also correct?

    @cais

After accessing the Specific File through CPanel, I discovered that all of the images are gone.

With only 2 sites affected, I can recreate again manually.

My concern is that, moving forward, once we have multiple sites, this could become a real nuisance.

Have you ever known of this to happen in the past, and if so what was the remedy to prevent it from happening in the future?

    Much appreciated for your time.

    Plugin Contributor photocrati

    (@photocrati)

@rookie – To be honest, I really cannot say what would have caused the images to be removed as I have not seen any similar issues in the past.

The error message basically points to the issue of no image being available but it doesn’t do much more as far as why that would be the case. I’m glad this only affected two of your sites, as well. It could even be in how this Multisite installation is working on your web server. It might be pushing its limits, you may want to contact your web host and ask them if the server environment is actually suitable for using a WordPress Multisite installation.
