    Questions:

    • Where is the function to manually start pinging for main-sitemap or all sub-sitemaps as stated in the change-log? Either is non existent or buried somewhere where regular Joe can’t see it.
    • Where is the support for changing the base of the sitemap URL to another URL (for WP installations in sub-folders) as stated in the change-log?

    Problem:

    • After upgrade to 4.0.5 the plugin arbitrarily decided not to include exactly 32 URLS (from 2500+) in the sitemap… randomly, with no obvious pattern, sprinkled across almost all monthly archives. I guess it has something to do with the usage of SQL instead of WP_Query for posts loading… and maybe the caching. I reverted to 4.0.4. The problem was solved.

    Suggestions:

    • Include backlink to the Sitemap Index in every sub-sitemap.
    • At the top of the Sitemap Index print the number of sub-sitemaps and the total number of included URLs. Also print the number of included URLs in every sub-sitemap.

Yes, I also can’t find the function to manually start pinging for main-sitemap or all sub-sitemaps which is supposed to be at the top of the admin panel?
    Thank you.

As far as I can see there is no such function @mica123. In short the plugin is not working as advertised. However, the main problem is that the plugin will not include all posts URLs in the sub-sitemaps… at least not on big websites with thousands of URLs.

    Hi,

Where is the function to manually start pinging for main-sitemap or all sub-sitemaps as stated in the change-log? Either is non existent or buried somewhere where regular Joe can’t see it.

It is in the first block of the sitemaps config page. “Notify Search Engines about your sitemap or your main sitemap and all sub-sitemaps now.”

Where is the support for changing the base of the sitemap URL to another URL (for WP installations in sub-folders) as stated in the change-log?

That is the “Override base URL” field. See here for isntructions.

Sorry I can’t reproduce the problem with the missing pages. The SQLs are nearly the same, and they also don’t change (so they should always produce the same result).

Are you absolutely sure you’ve included this option in 4.0.5 since I don’t see such a thing. I only see Notify Google about updates of your Blog, and Notify Bing (formerly MSN Live Search) about updates of your Blog. But those are not new options and they don’t do manual ping at all.

That is the “Override base URL” field. See here for instructions.

There’s no “Override base URL” field in the settings page in 4.0.5. Along with that playing with .htaccess is not an option for some users… or most of them I would say.

One person confirmed that these options do not exist in 4.0.5. Can someone else chime in and take a look at this please?

You should try on a site with thousands of URLs… created over 5-6 year period. In almost every sub-sitemap (monthly archive) there’s 1-2 posts missing. I’m not sure what’s causing this but it’s 100% there.

Are you sure that you are using the most recent version?

Here is a screenshot from a new WP installation with the plugin installed directly from the WP plugin repository via “Add plugin”.

Most of them don’t need this feature 🙂

Okay, fair enough. Note that I’ve stated at the beginning of this thread that I reverted to 4.0.4, thus I obviously didn’t see the “Override base URL” field which is there.

Anyhow, what about the “Added function to manually start ping for main-sitemap or all sub-sitemaps”. There is no such option on the screenshot.

There is, just click the links I have highlighted in the screenshot.

Yes, I can see the link for manual ping. I think the problem is that the instruction was not formulated clearly. Perhaps the sentence “Added function to manually start ping for main-sitemap or all sub-sitemaps” should have included the exact wording “Notify Search Engines about your sitemap or your main sitemap and all sub-sitemaps now.” to avoid confusion. Also, it is not exactly at the top of the admin panel of the Google XML Sitemaps.
Thank you very much. Arnee, for your hard work and clarifying this issue.
