Weird… if you’ve renamed and/or disabled the plugin, then it would be having no effect whatsoever on your site. We leave nothing behind when you disable it that would affect your site. something else is going on here..
The plugin search ONLY works if I rename the folder. If I leave the plugin installed but disable it from the dashboard, it still causes the search to not work.

Then here’s what you’ll need to do. Believe it or not, you have another plugin or configuration conflict causing the problem. To find if it’s a plugin, put the site back into a state where it’s not working: then, 1 by 1 disable a plugin on your site until it starts working again.
Also, it may be a javascript issue which you might be able to track down using your browser console to see what errors are being generated
Looks like it is jetpack that conflicts with it.

Shield is built to leave absolutely nothing behind when you disable it. It doesn’t modify any core files etc, for example, or change .htaccess either. If you are disabling Shield and you have a problem after that, then Shield is not the source of the issue – unless you have something like caching involved.
So are you saying that whenever you have this problem and you disable jetpack it goes away?
