    Hi there,

Everything seems to work just fine except for the shipping costs.

Our shipping costs are flat, always the same. But when there is two products in the cart and one giftwrap item, it’s impossible to checkout with shipment. Only pick-up is available.

When putting 5 products and 5 giftwrap products in the cart, the shipping option appears.

Our problem is that the giftwraps are actually boxes where u can put one or two bottles of wine in.. So one double box can hold two seperate products..

    Any toughts on this one?

    Thanks,
    Maarten

  • Hello Maarten,

Thanks for dropping a line; this sounds like a tricky little problem, and it’s new to me. I hope we can figure something out. It’s a little tough without access to your particular setup, so unless you can share a temporary Shop Manager login with me, we’re going to have to go through a line of questions.

First of all, are your gift wrapping products set as “virtual” products?

No they are not set as Virtual products.

I would like to add u but what’s ur e-mail address?

U can add me on Skype if u want: t3pkeh

Try setting gift wraps as virtual products – or at least set up their shipping settings – if you’re having problems with shipping charges in the cart.

    Hi,

Setting the products on virtual does work. Now you can add as many as u want and shipping is always working fine.

But still, it was working very strange.

    – Add a bottle of wine (shipping available)
    – Add a gift wrap (shipping available)
    – Add a 2nd bottle of wine (shipping not available)
    – Add a gift wrap (shipping available)
    – Add a 3rd bottle of wine (shipping not available)
    – Add a gift wrap (shipping available)
    – etc

So in this case my customer does not need inventory for his products so setting the giftwrap products on virtual is OK for now 🙂

    Thanks a lot!

You have to think about how WooCommerce views gift wrapping products: it views them like products in the cart.

So, you either have to set the gift wrapping products to be “virtual” products so that shipping for them is ignored.

Or, if gift wrapping products are set as standard or variable (non-virtual) products, you have to set shipping rules for your gift wrapping products so that your shipping costs work correctly in the cart.

This plugin will play nicely if the WooCommerce product settings are arranged carefully.

    Hi,

I’m hoping we are talking about the same thing when talking about “giftwrap products.” The only products I’m recommending you set to virtual are the gift wrap, not your bottles of wine. 🙂

    Thank you!

    Hi again,

I haven’t heard back; have you resolved this issue? I’m wondering if you’re having a similar issue as this: https://ww.wp.xz.cn/support/topic/shipping-costs-8/

This person is using a shipping calculator that seems to ignore virtual products, and counts them in a shipping-per-item-count tally. Take a look.

    Hi,

Sorry I forgot to reply to you.

Setting the wrapping products to virtual did the trick I guess. We are using the “WooCommerce Table Rate Shipping” plug-in which counts the products (but not the virtual products).

So now you can order a gift wrap (like a wine box) seperately or a bottle of wine with the wine box as gift wrap.

So thanks for your time, the customer is happy 🙂

    Thanks,
    Maarten
