Had the same problem. You have to type a category ID, not the name.
To see your category’s ID, go to the categories page, put your mouse over the category and read the URL. Search for the part “taxonomy=category&tagID=THISISTHENUMBERYOU’RELOOKINGFOR”.

I figured this out I think (since I don’t think the developer actually checks these forums). I put the taxonomy=”category” arg in there and it worked. without that arg, the cat=”” doesn’t seem to work. I hope that helps someone out.
robcruiz, I’m not sure how you added that arg. Without it, I get all posts. With it, I get nothing. Would you please take a look at my code and let me know how it differs from yours? Thanks!
