Shortcode layout_type not working

Does layout_type=”list” still work to choose a default view?

Shortcode is the following:

[events per_page=”1″ layout_type=”list” orderby=”event_start_date” order=”ASC” show_filters=”false”]

but it’s not defaulting to list view, it defaults to box. I would like to default to list and then hide the toggle. If a selection is made with the toggle, cache will remember and load it, but not for first-time / incognito visitors.
